In Memory Of Alex Jankiewicz

Alex Jankiewicz

26th August 1946 - 17th April 2006

We are deeply saddened by the loss of our good friend, colleague and mentor - Alex Jankiewicz, who died recently following a battle with cancer. Alex was a Visionary and Leader in Behaviour Based Safety in Australia and beyond and, as a result, his impact on the safety of many, many lives will be enduring.

Alex began his career at Alcoa as a Chemist, however his passion for people and their welfare led him down the path of health and safety and ultimately to the role of EOHS Manager. During this time he pursued vigorously the involvement of workers in their own safety and hence introduced the Behaviour Based Safety approach through a US Consultancy group. His passion for this grew and as a result, following a 27 year career at Alcoa, he established the OHS consultancy Applied Behavioural Sciences P/L, which later merged to form SafetyWorks Group. Thanks to his passion and contributions, and that of the whole team, SafetyWorks now provides an expanding range of services including: Executive Leadership Training, the Reinforcement (Behaviour) Based Safety Process, OHS management systems/strategic planning, and training programs for a diverse group of organisations.

As a specialised consultant and leadership coach, Alex had many years experience delivering 'employee focused' behavioural based safety implementations and leadership coaching workshops in a wide range of industries. Many of Alex's client's are world leaders in safety performance which shows the depth of impact Alex had through his work.

Alex had a Masters Degree in Applied Science (Engineering) from the University of Melbourne (1993) and a Graduate Diploma in Occupational Hygiene from Deakin University (1985).

Alex was passionate about having fun and making a difference, both of which he achieved with great success. His vision and leadership will continue and be strengthened through the commitment and efforts of the team at SafetyWorks.
